Eating Disorder Specialized Treatment
When working with clients with eating disorders, we utilize acceptance & commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy techniques (DBT). Eating disorders are not about food and weight. Food and weight are the symptoms. While it is important to address these symptoms, it is also important to explore the underlying reasons for developing an eating disorder. Themes such as low self-esteem, low self-directedness, loss of identity, self-hatred, and internal incongruence often drive these illnesses. We take a specialized approach in working with clients with eating disorders. When clients are able to identify underlying reasons for their eating disorders, find their voice, and use their voice, rather than their bodies, to express themselves, they often find that they no longer need their eating disorders. Through this healing and expressive process, full recovery IS possible!
